A great start to the 2001 track & field season! This was the earliest meet that we have participated in, and in almost every case we put up better times and distances than year. It was great team performance which saw us place in 7 of 10 events. There were several highlights from a performance standpoint: Several 9th & 10th graders showed they are ready to compete this year, Tiffany Belmont, Heaven Tutson, Megan Gatens, Nell Trefz, Betsy Ellsmore, Liz Vanderah all had solid meets. A few performances such as Megan Reed coming back from an injury filled 9th grade year to run 2:31 in her first varsity 800, Virginia Drier running 28.3 in her first varsity 200, Katie Hill's 64 400m, and Morgan Rohrbach's 64 400m, 7.7 55m, Mandy Voss's 5'0" high jump, and 4 x 4, 4 x 8 champions were among many indoor bests that we had. There were also a number of places where we learned some things, and that's o.k. Indoor meets are just for that purpose.
Perhaps one of the most enjoyable things to watch at this meet from a coaching standpoint was the way everyone supported each other. This has always been a hallmark of City High teams in the past, and it is good to see this will continue. Next up......University of Iowa Indoor March 10th.
