City,
West impress in MVC
West High and City High both brought home
a bumper crop of first-place finishes at the Mississippi
Valley Conference Indoor Track Meet on Monday in Cedar Falls.
For
the Women of Troy, Liz Huntley and Allison Dirks won the
overall MVC jumping events. Huntley won with a 16-feet,
3 1/2-inch long jump, and Dirks with a 5-3 high jump.
Janet
Dobyns won the 3,000, Claire Hall won the 800 and Nicole
Novak was first in the 400.
Sarah
Wickman was second in the 1,500.
City
High's Nelle Trefz edged out Wickman 4:47.63 to 4:49.18,
and a pack of other highly touted distance runners were
right behind.
"They
hammered on each other," City High coach Terry Coleman said.
"It was a very impressive race."
City
High, which reported divisional place-winners, had five
other first-place finishes in the Mississippi Division,
led by Emily Triplett in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.81
- about a half-second ahead of the field.
Sarah
Ziegenhorn won the 800 for City and Katie Krei won the 200.
