Katie
Krei's toughest competition doesn't always come from City High's
opponents on the basketball court. Most of the time it comes from
little sister Kelly.
Katie, a senior forward, often tangles with Kelly, a freshman post.
"We're really competitive with each other," Katie said. "We've always played against each other."
Katie said she's usually the one to come out on top, however. "Of course, always!" she said.
While
Kelly has made a big impact, scoring more than 18 points per game,
Katie puts more emphasis on her defensive play. She averages a little
more than five points and 3.5 steals per game.
"I really like to
play defense," Katie said. "You can have an off night on offense and
still do a good job on defense. Defense is about the heart."
While
Katie is hoping for a good tournament run with the Little Hawks, she's
also looking forward to track and soccer. She runs 400-meter races in
track, and is a defender on the soccer team.
She plans to make
soccer her future, as a matter of fact. She currently is deciding
between college at Creighton or Wartburg, where she plans to play and
study biology with the eventual goal of medical school.
