grabs Prairie Relays win

City
High's girls track team stayed undefeated this spring
by winning the Cedar Rapids Prairie Relays Thursday night.
The Little Hawks won 11 events and compiled
1621/2 points, 69 points better than runner-up Prairie.
West
finished in fourth with 68 points.
City
junior Monica Mims ran on two relays that notched state-best
times and won the 400 meters in 59.75 seconds.
The
Little Hawks' sprint medley relay of Elizabeth Matzen,
Maya Monitto-Weber, Patrice Jones and Mims ran a meet-record
1:51.89. The 4x400 relay of Meggan Reed, Mims, Kelsie
Full and Katie Krei ran a time of 4:02.81.
Mims
ran a sub-60-second split in the 4x400 and sub-59 in the
sprint medley.
Jessica
Elliott won the shot put and the discus. Her throw of
40 feet, 111/2 inches in the shot was her best by a foot.
Ashton Strickland won the long jump with a best effort
of 16-3.
City
sophomore Jennie Funk won the 3,000 and 800. Katy Fraga
captured the 400 hurdles and Maya Monitto-Weber the 100
hurdles.
West
High notched one winner - Lynn Dobyns in the 1,500 - as
the Women of Troy tried to fine tune some things for Monday's
district meet.
Both
Jenny Evans, who finsihed second with a throw of 37-61/2
inches, and third place Katie Jenn had personal best throws
in the shot put.
"That
was a huge thrill for both girls," said West coach Mike
Parker. "Our girls did a good job of keeping focus. We're
in our mode, looking toward Monday."
