Little
Hawks break 4 records
Iowa City Press-Citizen
City High’s girls track team set four
meet records on Saturday en route to taking the team title
at the Cedar Rapids Xavier Invitational.
Jessica Elliott set the new
mark in the discus with a throw of 125 feet, 9 inches.
Maya Monitto-Webber set the new standard in the 100-meter
hurdles with her time of 15.25 seconds.
Also inking their names in
the record books was the 4x800 team of Nelle Trefz, Ali
Kirsch, Meggan Reed and Jennie Funk and the shuttle hurdle
team of Aly Roelf, Emily Triplett, Monitto-Webber and
Katie Fraga.
“We were really focused
on the Drake qualifying events, and in every case we improved
our seeds in that,” said City coach Terry Coleman.
“Everything dropped a couple seconds.”
While she didn’t set
a record, sophomore Rachel Manuel turned some heads in
the 3,000, winning the event with a time of 11:10.31.
“She’s a sophomore
who didn’t see a lick of varsity action last year
and is on the cusp of qualifying for the Drake Relays,”
Coleman said.
City also got gold in the
1,500 courtesy of Funk and in the sprint medley relay
with the team of Elizabeth Matzen, Heaven Tutson, Virginia
Dreier and Monica Mims.
