High captures 7 track titles

City
High's girls track team won seven of 15 events and West
High won three more at the Mississippi Valley Conference
indoor meet Saturday in Mount
Vernon.
"To
win seven of 15 events was very gratifying," City assistant
coach Steve Sher-wood said. "We had a lot of folks on
spring break, and I'm sure a lot of other teams did too.
But we had some freshmen and underclassmen that are stepping
up and turning in great times."
Ashton
Strickland won the long jump with a personal-best leap
of 15-feet, 83/4-inches for City. Jess Elliott set her
third personal-best in as many meets in winning the shot
put with her toss of 38-10. Emily Triplett won the 55-meter
hurdles, Monica Mims won the 800, Jennie Funk won the
1,500 and the Little Hawks won the distance medley and
4x400 relays.
Jeni
Frudden led the Women of Troy by winning the 3,000 in
10:04 despite a nasal infection and Veronica Dykstra won
the high jump. West also won the 4x800.
Many
of West's runners were gone on foreign language trips,
coach Mike Parker said.
