Little Hawks open indoor track season

City High's girls track team opened the season by winning the running events portion of the Quad City Indoor Meet and setting a pair of meet records Thursday at Augustana College in Davenport.

The Little Hawks scored 45 points to edge Rock Island, Ill., with 44.

Ali Kirsch, Meggan Reed, Maggie Leyendecker and Ruhee Arora won the 4x800-meters in a meet-record time of 10 minutes, 19.32 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of Kelly Sherry, Ashton Strickland, Katy Fraga and Monica Mims won in a meet-record 4:18.73.

Katie Krei was second in the 400, Emily Triplett was third in the 55 hurdles and Rachel Manuel was third in the 1,600.

The field events portion of the meet will take place today in Davenport.

QUAD CITY INDOOR MEET

Team scores (top 5) - 1. City 45; 2. Rock Island, Ill. 44; 3. Clinton 26; 4. Davenport North 20; 5. Pleasant Valley 18.

City place-winners:

55 hurdles - 3. Emily Triplett 9.27; 6. Maya Monitto-Weber 9.35.

4x800 - 1. City (Ali Kirsch, Meggan Reed, Maggie Leyendecker, Ruhee Arora) 10:19.32.

400 - 2. Katie Krei 1:03.89.

4x200 - 4. City (Monitto-Weber, Camille Jordan, Tara Whiting, Corie Wagner) 1:55.86.

1,600 - 3. Rachel Manuel 5:47.66.

4x400 - 1. City (Kelly Sherry, Ashton Strickland, Katy Fraga, Monica Mims) 4:18.73.
